E. Simms Campbell: Joe Louis Reigns Forever

Joe Lewis (1914-1981) became the world heavyweight boxing champion in 1937, a title he was to hold for an astonishing 13 years. He was only 27 years old in 1941 when a cartoon published in Esquire by E. Simms Campbell jokingly suggested he could very well remain the reigning world champion well into his old age. He was actually to hold the title through 1949, itself an absolutely remarkable run.

It's a knockout! Attempted Bloggery continues to explore the work of cartoonist E. Simms Campbell (1906-1971). Readers can help by contributing high-resolution scans or photographs of original Campbell art or of forgotten published works such as this one.
